EUROPE’S #1 TEAM FACE DEFEAT AT E-BOX INVITATIONAL
The annual E-Box and ShE-Box Invitational took place in early May, with teams from England and Scotland both travelling to Prague, Czechia to compete in the tournament. Whilst the England women didn’t enter an official international team, members of their training squad competed under the team name “Athletes from England” and in non-England kit. The talented squad came away with two wins and two losses at the event, one such loss being by just one goal to “The Women’s Box Lacrosse Global Network” team from Canada.
The men’s tournament saw an official England squad take part, with the team utilising the event to give less experienced players the opportunity to suit up in England kit for the first time. A big loss to Czechia was to be these new players’ first experience on the international stage, opening the weekend with a 22-10 loss to the host-nation. What followed was another loss to Germany by 15 goals to seven, and a final win for the squad against Tokyo Box Lacrosse, 18-10.
Whilst it is unusual to see this England squad come away with more losses at a European event than wins, it’s commendable to see the coaching team give opportunities for new talent to shine and learn from those more experienced players on the squad.
